Electric Stair Lifts - Are They The Better Option?

You have a few different options that are available to you when you are choosing electric stair lifts for use in the home. Whatever options you choose, however, it is something that is very convenient and it has helped many people who have a difficult time getting around to be able to move from floor to floor without difficulty. Here are some of the things that you may run into when looking at electric stair lifts that you may want to consider, as it can help to make the item more or less convenient for you.

One of the main things that you need to choose is whether you're going to get a lift that plugs right into the electric in the house or if you are going to get one that is battery powered. Most people simply get the one that is powered on household current, because there is no need for you to worry about having to charge a battery on a periodic basis.

If you live in an area where you constantly have problems with blackouts or brownouts, however, it may be a better option for you to choose one that is battery powered. Make sure that you talk to the installer about these options ahead of time.

Most of the electric stair lifts are going to be installed via contractor but there are some which can be installed by the homeowner. In any case, if the stairway is straight and there are no obstacles for you to overcome, the track is mounted to the wall and then the chair is mounted to the track.

You do have a few different options available for the type of operation, such as a belt driven or rack and pinion drive but for the most part, this is not going to be something that you will need to worry about when choosing electric stair lifts. In many cases, these options are specific to the manufacturer and it is not going to make a large difference in the overall operation of the lift.

If you are confined to a wheelchair, one of the smaller chair lifts may not work well for you. In this case, you may need to get a wheelchair lift which is a much larger item than the standard chair lifts. The electric stair lift operate similarly to an elevator and you roll your wheelchair into one and, move it up to the next floor and then roll it out of the other end.

The convenience of having one of these types of electric stair lifts is the fact that you are going to have your wheelchair with you on the floor where you land. The problem is, for most people, one of these items is much too large for residential use.

Finally, ask the dealer if they have some kind of rental contract available for the electric stair lifts because this can help you to save a considerable amount of money. It is not always going to be available and at times, you may need to look to other options to save money but it is worth asking about.
