Can I Install A Stair Lift Myself?
This is a question we get a lot today. With the economy the way it is and money in tight
supply in some circumstances, installing a stair lift yourself may seem like an excellent way to save some money.
But before you decide to take this on yourself, be sure to answer a few key questions.
Do I have the skills to complete the task? Do I have the right tools? Do I have someone else that can assist me
in helping with the stair lift installation? If you answered yes to these questions, then you might have the
ability to do the job yourself.
That said, there are some very valid reasons for letting the pros do the job for you. For example, a few states,
notably CT and WA, have regulations in place regarding installing a stair lift that make it illegal unless you are
certified.
Some manufacturers and companies may void your warranty in the event something goes wrong with the stair lift
due to it being improperly installed. Also, we've even heard that insurance companies may not pay a homeowners
claim if the lift is damaged and was not properly installed. You may want to check with both your insurance company
and your lift manufacturer before making a decision on installing yourself.
In most all cases I would recommend paying the few hundred dollars to have a stair lifts installation done by
professionals. Unless you have prior experience in this area, it can be money well spent. Not only for making
things easier, but also for the peace of mind in knowing that the lift will be safely operating for years to
come.
