Are There Grants That Will Help Stair Lifts Costs?
Knowing that stair lift costs can be quite high for many family budgets, you might be
asking yourself whether or not there are any grants available to help with them? Although there are other methods
to funding a stair lift that are better in my opinion, there are places to apply for a grant.
What you might want to do first is to speak with Social Services agencies in your area. Many occupational
therapists can help with this as well. Yes, there is red tape involved and a string of people to speak with, but it
may have a positive outcome in the end.
Disabled Facility Grants are an option in a few cases, depending on how they are handled. It is at least worth a
look, but may likely not work out for most people.
Rural Housing Services is another option that is a part of the U.S. Dept of Agriculture. They have grants, and
loans as well, for those who are low income and live in rural areas of the United States. You can find an office
near you by going to their website at: www.rurdev.usda.gov/recd_map.html. More information about these
programs can also be found at www.rurdev.usda.gov/rhs/Individual/ind_splash.htm.
Another option for finding stair lifts grants is the Dept. of Housing and Community Development. They will
sometimes be able to offer help in upgrading homes in the local area. You can check out their website for more
information at: www.nahro.org/reference/internethousing.cfm.
Finally, State Assistive Technology Programs offer loans and grants specifically for individuals who are
disabled. It's definitely one to look into and you can find out more by going to: www.homemods.org/pages/statefunding.html. There is also a
phone number on the site as well.
